Visa Requirements

All Australians are required to apply for a Tourist Visa to Tanzania.

Up until September 2017, these could be obtained through the consulate in Melbourne, however they are now available on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

Medication & Immunizations

In many African countries, it is a requirement to have a valid Yellow Fever immunization card, so you must obtain one prior to departure.

Immunizations can be provided by most GPs and all Travel Clinics in Australia.

Mandatory

  • Yellow Fever

Recommended

  • Malaria

Altitude Sickness

Most people climbing Kilimanjaro experience some form of mild altitude sickness (such as headaches, lethargy, etc.).

We recommend you look into obtaining a course of medication such as Diamox to help alleviate any issues.

Please consult your GP for advice on travel medications and your personal circumstances.

Travel Insurance

It is a requirement that all participants hold Travel Insurance from your medical or general insurance provider. Insurance must include coverage for trekking to 6000m.

Check to ensure your travel insurance covers:

  • Medical evacuation

  • Luggage coverage

Copies of Travel Insurance must be provided to us no later than 7-days prior to arrival in Tanzania.

Does normal Health Insurance cover me?

No, most normal Health Insurance policies do not provide travel-specific insurance, and rarely high-altitude activities like this.

Medical Evacuation Insurance

It is important to ensure that your insurance covers medical evacuation back to Australia or your country of residence. After COVID, this type of insurance is relatively easy to find.
