About Mount Kilimanjaro

Rising dramatically from the plains of northern Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, reaching 5,895 m (19,341 ft) at Uhuru Peak. It's a dormant volcano made up of three cones — Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira — and one of the great Seven Summits.

What makes "Kili" so extraordinary is the journey to the top. In just a few days you pass through five distinct climate zones, from steamy tropical rainforest, up through heath and moorland and stark alpine desert, to the glaciers and ice of the arctic summit — like travelling from the equator to the poles in a single week.

About climbing Kilimanjaro

Reaching the summit is achieved by a 6 to 9 day walk through Kilimanjaro National Park — there's no rock-climbing, ropes or special equipment, and no technical skill required. If you can walk for several hours a day over rugged ground, Kilimanjaro is within your reach.

The single biggest factor in standing on the summit isn't fitness — it's giving your body time to adjust to the altitude. That's why we climb "pole pole" (slowly, slowly) on carefully paced routes, with experienced local guides, daily health checks and the option of certified fitness training to get you ready. It's a genuine challenge, and an unforgettable, life-changing achievement.
